After 3 years of immense planning and increased vigour, the Rajasthan Kabir yatra was all set to revisit the land of dunes in 2016. With the cooperation of the Bikaner Police, Lokayan Sansthan staged the project, ‘Taana-Baana’ with a vision of promoting and facilitating a harmonious atmosphere between different casts/communities to ensure peaceful coexistence in the society.
Covering the areas of Sri Dungargarh Bikaner, Mulwas, Sri Kolayat and Raw wala, the 6-day yatra jubilantly celebrated the spirit of Kabir and other mystic voices through film screenings and live music concerts, bringing mass rural audiences together with folk singers, scholars, activists, artists, and students from urban India. With 200 musicians from across the country and hundreds of Yatris traveling in buses, the event was curated with daily divine activities of, Satsang; reflecting in the company of truth, followed by village excursions, and the group jaagrans at night.
The yatra got support from different NGOs and the tourism department gathering a good number of sponsors, and supporters. The police helped suggesting regions and areas that were in a state of radicalization after the recent communal conflicts, where the voices of mystics successfully made an inner dialogue with local people and enthused the society towards the soul-striking ideology of Kabir. Motivating the audience towards the ideal recognition of the Rajasthani heritage and culture, Gopal Singh Chauhan summed up “Our idea is to travel and show people that this tradition is alive. I am working for the people of Bikaner who should know about their culture and history,”
