Rajasthan Kabir Yatra is a week-long travelling music festival spread across six rural and urban locations in and around Bikaner.
Organised by Lokayan, Bikaner with the advisory support of Kabir Project, Bangalore this is a folk festival providing a space where folk musicians, artists, scholars, students and seekers can immerse themselves in the voices of Bhakti and Sufi saint-poets such as Kabir, Mira, Bulleh Shah and many more, questioning and dissolving boundaries of caste, class, religion and identity.
The first edition, in 2012, was widely chronicled and appreciated. It brought together 13 artists, over 200 yatris from many parts of India and abroad, and thousands of local audiences. The yatra sees a deep involvement by local village mandalis in the organisation and celebration of mysticism and music.
We are all set to organize the second edition from November 11-16, 2016. For the first time, the district police under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Dr. Amandeep Singh Kapoor has come forward to support this festival. His idea is to take the Yatra to villages around Bikaner which have seen communal flare ups in recent times. This year we will see artists from Kutch, Malwa, Rajasthan, Bangalore and more, showcasing folk voices as well as work by painters, sculptors and photographers inspired by this tradition.
